Outdoor festival kicks off Hispanic Heritage celebration
By Press Times staff
GREEN BAY – Estamos Aqui — We are here — was the theme of the outdoor festival held in recognition of Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month at UW-Green Bay.
Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month runs Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
Estamos Aqui, held Saturday, Sept. 16, at The Weidner featured live music, art, food and a car show.
“Approximately 9% of UW-Green Bay’s student population identifies as Hispanic/Latinx, which has steadily increased for the past 10 years,” a UW-Green Bay release stated.
“We are excited to honor the rich Hispanic culture found in our region and within our community,” said Chancellor Michael Alexander. “The month of activities and events allow us to learn and celebrate with our students, faculty and staff and contribute to the events occurring across the region.”
The UW-Green Bay student organization Organización Latino Americana (OLA) worked with faculty, staff, students and the community to organize programs that “celebrate and recognize the history, culture, contributions and presence of Hispanic/Latinx people in the United States and the community.”
