On March 14 and 15, Green Bay East High School will host its annual Festival of the Arts event, featuring music and dance entertainment as well as a full visual art show.
The event is expected to be a community celebration of all things student and art.
“It’s going to be a really fun night…” said Lucinda Roberts, Fine Arts Program coordinator at East High. “We’ve got the piece that the visual arts students have been working on — which is murals — and there will be mural tours so you can see what the students have been working on throughout the year. And then we will also have your traditional 2-D and 3-D pieces as well. One thing I’m excited about that’s new this year is that during the Rhapsody Revue show the Rhapsody show choir will be performing and the jazz band will be performing, but what we are adding this year is a whole new element and that’s that our literary arts students have written spoken word pieces and our theater arts students are going to be performing those written pieces during the show. And then we will have dance students performing in the show as well.”
Alongside all the work presented by the students, the Green Bay East Performing Art parents have planned some accompanying events, including a menu curated by a professional chef for a dinner which can be attended for $15, raffle baskets and a bake sale.
All money raised from the event will be used to support the overall Fine Arts Program at East High.
“I am the head cheerleader for the fine arts program and head cheerleader for our terrific students,” Roberts said. “These are kids that have really aimed at doing something more with something that they really truly love and are passionate about, and I want them to feel like they have support.”
This event will also be a great opportunity for community members to support their local students in their artistic pursuits.
Roberts mentioned, “It’s important for them (students) to know the community supports them, when we get a good turnout for something these students walk around like ‘Wow there a lot of people there, that was so cool’, and ‘I saw so and so’, and they are so excited by that”.
Entry tickets will be sold for $8 for adults and $5 for students.
