Dolores R. Massa

UTICA — Dolores R. Massa, 90, of Utica passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

She was born on October 21, 1931, in Utica the daughter of the late Camillo and Mary (Sansone) Conte. She attended Utica Schools. On July 1, 1950, at St. Mary Mt. Carmel Church in Utica she was united in marriage to Joseph “Peppy” Massa, a blessed union of over 54 years filled with much love and mutual devotion, Mr. Massa passed away on August 29, 2004.

Dolores was a well-known self-employed hairdresser. She also owned and operated, along with her husband Joseph, Toni’s Sweet Shop on the corner of Mohawk and Bleecker St. in Utica.

She was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish in Utica. Dolores was a loving wife, and mother who cherished the time that she spent with her family. She loved the holidays and all of her Italian Traditions that went along with them. She enjoyed her many trips to the Turning Stone Casino where she made many dear friends over the years. She will be sadly missed by her many family members and friends.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Massa Jr. of Utica whom she resided with. She leaves her special cousins and godchildren, Michele and Keith Rabideau of Marcy, Francine Sansone also of Marcy, Frank Sansone II and his wife Christen of New York Mills. She also leaves her nieces and nephews, Regina and Jim Palmer of Hartwick, NY, Mario and Colleen Massa of Ft. Edward, NY, Ernie Massa of Utica, John and Sue Massa of New Hartford, and Maria and John Thorpe of Albany, NY. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Isabelle Massa of Albany, NY. She leaves her cousins, Joyce and Sam Sardina of Utica, Carmelita and Jim Royal of AZ., Rich and Cindy Cutri of Canandaigua, NY, her special friends, Dolores Bremmer of Utica, Marie Corletto of Utica, Rosemary and John Jones of Utica.

Her son Joe wishes to sincerely thank the Masonic Care Community Rehab especially Dr. McCormick, and Kate Monahan, also a special thank you the St. Elizabeth Medical Center 4th floor staff with special mention to Nurse Practitioner, Samantha Prendergrast, and Nurse Jesse Menzies. Your care and compassion will never be forgotten. Special thanks to Michele and Keith Rabideau, Francine Sansone and Frank Sansone II, Gloria Raffule, Mike Jacobs and Phil Christiano your many acts of kindness were always very much appreciated.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish 648 Jay St. in Utica where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday May 27, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc., 40 Man St. in Whitesboro.
