De Pere-Notre Dame game comes down to the wire

Posted

DEPERE – On Friday, Aug. 30, the De Pere Redbirds faced off against Notre Dame Academy for a game that came down to the wire.

Both teams started off strong defensively, not giving up a touchdown through the entire first half.

The first points of the game were scored by De Pere, having to settle for a field goal, making the score 3-0, but these points did not come easy.

Notre Dame made them work for every inch they got.

After the field goal there were no points scored from either team as both defenses seemed to be almost impenetrable.

It wasn’t until the third quarter that Notre Dame was finally able to put points up on the board by scoring a touchdown off a long drive, taking the lead, with the score now being 3-7.

Their run game seemed to be unstoppable in the second half.

After this Notre Dame got the ball back and began to air it [the ball] out but this did not end well for them as they threw an interception to De Pere.

Even though Notre Dame was winning the game at the moment, De Pere wasn’t going to give up so easily.

They put together a drive in the final minutes of the game getting themselves inside of the 20-yard line, but Notre Dame’s defense stopped them in their tracks and came up with a huge defensive play to put the game away.

Towards the last minute of the game Notre Dame did not want to give De Pere a chance to win, so they ran the ball and took all of the time off the clock, ending the game with a kneel.

Both teams felt this was a game that would come to the wire and it did.

The coaches both saw this game as a learning experience to prepare themselves for the upcoming conference games.

This game was well fought by both teams with Notre Dame coming out on top —final score of 7-3.
