VIRGINIA BEACH- Cody Minor took his wrestling skills down to the NHSCA National Wrestling Championships held in Virginia over the course of three days.

Hundreds of scouts were on hand to witness the more than 4,000 wrestlers (in age and skill divisions) take to the mats.

Minor registered in the 106 lb. sophomore elite category where in the past hundreds of athletes have earned Division 1 scholarships in that classification.

Minor started his day receiving a bye amongst the many hopefuls.

In the second round, (his first match of the day) Minor came out and put a technical foul on Jesse Gehr of Florida late in the second period.

Minor then carried that momentum into the next two matches where he earned hard-fought 8-5 and 6-2 decisions over nationally ranked opponents.

Minor quickly found himself in the quarterfinals where he lost late on a takedown (5-3) by Hunter Adrian of Massachusetts.

Undeterred, Minor came back in the front of the wrestle-back bracket and defeated Ivan Garcia and Jake Eckerle from the ‘big apple’ to set the stage for the big finale.

In the 5th/6th place match, Minor took on Tommy Larson from none other than the state of Wisconsin. Larson attends East Troy High School and the ‘All-Badger’ matchup featured some superb wrestling despite the nerves and exhaustion.

When it was said and done, one takedown was all it took for Minor to take home 5th place for the competition.

With the placement, Minor earned All-American status and will no doubt be on a lot of college coaches radar in the upcoming years.

MYRTLE BEACH- The Ashwaubenon Jaguars baseball team took their fortune to the South Carolina coast over spring break week.

The Jaguars came out and quickly fell behind 1-0 after the first inning against the Sailors of Lakeview, Pennsylvania.

However, the Jaguars responded by slapping a three-run inning together in the second to regain the lead.

Then in the fifth, the Jaguars saw their 3-2 lead quickly turn into a 9-3 deficit when the inning had been completed.

It added up to a 10-3 loss in the opener.

The Jaguars had no time to think about what occurred in Game 1 and took to the field against JEB Stuart High School out of Falls Church, Virginia.

The Jaguars punched out a few key hits to prevail by a final of 4-2, and garner a split on the road-trip.

The Jaguars will take their 1-1 mark to Bay Port on April 5.
