GREENLEAF-Alyssa Cayer led the way for the West De Pere golf team by placing fifth overall (101) at Wander Springs golf course held on the spring and garden nines. (Sept. 18)

Cayer parred 9, 11, and 14 en route to a good closing nine.

Because of her finish, Cayer was rewarded with second team all-conference honors.

“She played up to the level of her competition today,” said Chuck Brehm, West De Pere girls golf coach. “The other girls are first team caliber players and average in the 40s for nine holes. Very proud.”

Freshman Morgan DeGroot turned in her best round of the season by shooting a 113 (52 on the back nine).

“Morgan ran into some trouble on her final two holes on the front but made a small adjustment mid round to her swing,” said Brehm. “She then hit a groove and played extremely well on the back nine."

The Phantoms finished fourth on the day as a team and will play in one more invite before tackling the WIAA Division 1 Regionals held at Royal Scot Golf Course.

“I was proud of all the girls for how they were able to battle back after the first nine holes and all play better the second half of the day,” Brehm said. “We are still a young team learning from our mistakes and making fixes each day to make ourselves better golfers.”

Note: Kowalczyk birdied the par three 11th hole
