BROWN COUNTY – The Brown County Library has announced the release of ‘Discover Brown County,’ a history map that encourages the exploration of Brown County’s history, heritage, natural wonders, notable people, recreation and other points of interest.

“It is fair to say that the library loves stories, and we have been collecting, preserving and showcasing these stories and we are so excited to be able to offer these stories up for our community as we look to celebrate the U.S. 250,” said Brown County Library Executive Director Sarah Sugden. “I can think of no better way to celebrate the great occasion than by inviting people to connect with some of our history here in Brown County.”

The Discover Brown County history map is a gateway to Brown County’s extraordinary heritage and is the perfect companion for planning excursions, day trips and outings throughout the year.

Using Discover Brown County, interested community members can explore landmarks, historic sites and natural resources, creating lasting memories while learning about Brown County’s rich heritage and experiencing the unique offerings of the region.

“It’s an opportunity for the public to really remind themselves why we’re so unique and some of the great things we have right here in Brown County…” said Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach. “Not too long ago, Brown County was celebrating its 200th anniversary and it gave us an opportunity to remind ourselves and look back to see what made Brown County what it is tday.”

Curated by Brown County Library staff, the map is structured around thematic content areas of historical significance: Entertainment and Arts, Natural Resources. Eateries, Transportation, Education, Museums and Historical Societies, Historic Sites, Military Trading Posts and Statues and Markers.

The library partnered with Press Times to produce a paper version that will be widely available throughout Brown County and Discover Green Bay to create the Brown County History Trail passport app at greenbay.com.

The print version also includes information about the First Nations, industries, notable individuals and sports that shaped Brown County and have influenced our community pride.
Bundles of maps will be available for pickup at the Central Library to those who wish to promote and distribute them.
