GREEN BAY – The Brown County Blackjacks semi-pro football team is ready to make way in the upcoming 2024 season after hosting tryouts on Saturday, Jan. 13.
From 4-6 p.m. at the Kress Events Center on the UW-Green Bay campus, the Blackjacks hosted tryouts to build their new squad for the upcoming season.
“This time of the year is exciting because it’s just all about meeting new players and trying to find opportunities for them to move to the next level,” said Brown County Blackjacks General Manager and Former Head Coach Brian Peterson.
Peterson said that he is thrilled to see this new crop of players that are excited to develop as players and as people during their future season.
“We’ve got a much younger team this year. We have had a very veteran-heavy team the last few years, but we’ve got a lot of young guys on the team this year, so I’m excited to see what kind of performance they can put on,” said Peterson.
Although the coaching staff is still in the process of putting together their roster, Peterson said one aspect of the team that will be experiencing a big change this season is how young the roster is.
“It’s really going to be the youth on the team. Our average guy last year was on the team eight years and our average guy on the team this year is going to be two years,” said Peterson.
As spring grows nearer and nearer, Peterson said that the Blackjacks are ready to continue on their success after finishing last season off with a win at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minne. in the championship.
