ASHWAUBENON – The Bay Port boys’ swimming team capped off its impressive start to the season with a victory at the 39th Annual Jaguar Swimming Invitational at the Ashwaubenon Community Pool Jan. 11.
The Pirates’ 473 points outdistanced Appleton North/East by 100 points in the 11-team event.
Locally, Ashwaubenon (third – 256 points) and Pulaski (ninth – 101) also competed.
Bay Port’s 200-yard individual medley relay team of Victor Kostov, Griffin Hawley, Keaton Spindler and Kyle Zerbel got the swimming portion of the meet underway with a winning time of 1:39.82.
Kostov took first in the 200 IM (2:01.63), while Ashwaubenon’s Joe Steffel’s time of 2:07.60 was good for second.
Hawley and Spindler finished two-three in the 50 freestyle with times of 21.59 and 22.11, respectively.
Spindler won the 100 butterfly (54.98), while Zerbel took second in the 100 freestyle (48.90).
The Pirates’ 200-freestyle relay team of Hawley, Zerbel, Payton Schilz and Spindler won in 1:29.07.
Kostov (55.63) and Zerbel (55.71) also finished one-two in the 100 backstroke.
In the last event of the day, the 400-freestyle relay, Ashwaubenon (Steffel, Jackson Hodek, Cooper Herr, Nick Messamore) finished second in 3:25.31, and Bay Port (Lucas Thibert, Kostov, Alec Tuttle, Schilz) finished a slot behind in 3:26.66.
