ASHWAUBENON – Ashwaubenon High School has hired Chase DeCleene as the new wrestling coach.

DeCleene has been an assistant coach for the Jaguars since 2017.

Before teaching and coaching at Ashwaubenon, DeCleene taught at Merrill High School for one year and spent three years as an assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP).

Ashwaubenon Activities Director/Associate Principal Nick Senger said he’s excited to bring DeCleene on board.

“First, I want to congratulate Coach Jody VanLaanen and Coach Andy Kurowski on retiring from our wrestling program,” he said. “Their passionate presence will always be with us. We’re excited for Chase to lead our program. He brings tons of energy and has a great ability to build rapport with our student-athletes. Our goal is to continue developing young men with high character, being competitors and a strong work ethic. Chase knows we need to build on past success and recruit more students into the wrestling program. He’s an accomplished Ashwaubenon wrestler himself and wrestled at UWSP.”

DeCleene also said he’s excited.

“I’m excited to get the opportunity,” he said. “I want to fill the room and build a championship program. It’s been a dream of mine to be the head wrestling coach at Ashwaubenon. The school has a tradition of excellence and success. I plan on continuing and contributing to that legacy. I can't wait to get started.”
