When and how did you start making art?
I’ve always been a creative person, though I didn’t consider myself an artist. In the past I had worked at a dental lab, which was a form of art camouflaged in the world of manufacturing. I took a ceramics class in 2020 with the intention of finding a winter hobby and things fell into place. I loved it immediately. I love its challenges, its versatility and its process. It gives me a a way to express myself and make the things I think are interesting and beautiful.

What inspires your work?
I’m inspired by color schemes and subtle textures that can give an ordinary piece, such as a mug, a more interesting life. It depends on what I’m working on and how I’m feeling. Sometimes I like making very soft and subtle pieces. Sometimes I like to use bold and bright colors. I like change and I like being versatile. It’s who I am. I’m also inspired by my dog — or any dogs. I think they are such interesting creatures. I try to incorporate their personalities in my pieces.

How would you describe Green Bay/NE Wisconsin’s arts community?
I think it’s pretty great! I have found many opportunities to put myself out there and have had a really great response from people. I look forward to continuing to do so.

What is the best advice you have for other artists?
Go out if your comfort zone.

Where can people find your work?
I do local markets in northeast Wisconsin during the summer months and I have a Facebook and Instagram page where you can see my current work and process. I have an Etsy shop also — my shop name is Muddy Inspirations!
