Area track and field athletes advance to WIAA Division 1 state meet

DE PERE – A slew of area athletes participated in the WIAA Division 1 West De Pere Track and Field Sectional on Friday, May 30. 

The meet was delayed by two hours after thunderstorms and lightning forced officials to postpone the action until conditions were safe. 

The top three finishers in each event advanced to the state meet, held on June 6-7, at the Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex on the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse campus. 

Teams competing included Appleton East, Appleton North, Appleton West, Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, De Pere, Green Bay East, Green Bay Preble, Green Bay Southwest, Green Bay West, Hortonville, Kaukauna, Kimberly, Menasha, Pulaski and West De Pere. 

Appleton North won the girls’ competition with 115.5 points, while the De Pere boys took home the sectional title with 118 points.
