GREEN BAY — The 10th annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb will take place Saturday, Sept. 10 at Lambeau Field.

The event, hosted by Pierce Manufacturing, is a tribute to the 343 New York City Fire Department members who gave their lives during the tragic events at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

“Now more than 20 years after 9/11, it remains a moment forever etched in our memories, and our annual memorial stair climb is just a small way to honor the members of the fire service who were lost that day,” said Chief David W. Litton of the Green Bay Metro Fire Department.

All proceeds go to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) to provide resources to assist survivors in rebuilding their lives and work within the fire service community to reduce firefighter deaths.

“We remain grateful to be able to help provide the opportunity for people to recognize those heroes and to raise money for the important services provided by the NFFF,” Litton said.

Last year’s record attendance exceeded 2,800 members of the fire service, their families, friends and community members who helped raise more than $180,000 for NFFF.

“No day has greater significance to the modern fire service than 9/11 when 343 FDNY firefighters died in the line of duty,” said Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Fire & Emergency. “In the immediate aftermath of the Sept, 11 attacks, our nation demonstrated fortitude and perseverance. The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is one way we can continue to support the fire service beyond the apparatus we build each day and collectively promise to never forget.”

At the equivalent of the 78th floor of the World Trade Center towers, which is the highest floor firefighters reached on 9/11, each climber rings the fire bell in honor of the fallen firefighter on their badge.

The stair climb is not a timed race and participants can climb to any desired level.

An adult or guardian must accompany minors who participate.

The stair climb starts and finishes on the northwest end of Lambeau Field.

The climb route is one full lap of the Lambeau steps.

To ensure a smooth and safe event, climb start times are implemented in waves.

Each wave will consist of 343 climbers.

Anyone not pre-registered can sign up at the registration tent on the day of the event.
