ALLOUEZ – A 2018 loan granted to the Allouez Buccaneers football program will be altered following a unanimous decision Tuesday, Jan. 21, by the village board to approve an extension of terms.
The Buccaneer program, which puts on tackle football for kids in fifth through eighth grade, was granted a request to extend the loan term by seven years, lowering the semi-annual payment on the $115,000 borrowed in 2018 from $6,698 to $3,889.
The interest rate on the loan will remain at 3 percent and the last payment to the village will be made Sept. 1, 2035, now that the terms have gone from 10 to 17 years.
The Buccaneer program plans to use the funds saved on the semi-annual payment to pay off unforeseen expenses incurred by the contractor during the construction of the concession/restroom building at PHM Webster Park.
“We needed some things changed to be easier for it to be winterized,” said Buccaneers president Paul Ihlenfeldt. “The inspectors wanted some footings changed that were already on their pillars. There were some things like that that came up that were fairly costly and pushed it a little further.”
Animal control with Howard
An intergovernmental agreement between Allouez and the Village of Howard was approved, which will see the two communities partner to handle animal control in Allouez.
For 2020, Howard will provide the manpower and equipment necessary for animal control in Allouez for a fee.
The Village of Allouez will be paying $17 per CART (Citizen Animal Response Team) call, plus mileage.
In return, Howard will handle hiring and payroll as well as carry comprehensive liability and property insurance.
Kornowske honored
The board unanimously passed a resolution to officially honor and thank Wes Kornowske for serving on the planning commission and the board of appeals since January 2015.
Michael Lefebvre, a resident of Allouez for more than 30 years, was unanimously approved to fill the vacant position on the board of appeals.
Lefebvre is a retired engineer with 47 years experience in civil/municipal engineering in Northeast Wisconsin.
Lefebvre has served previously on the Brown County Planning Commission Board, the Brown County Community Mediation Center, the Wisconsin Land Information Association and is a current member of the Brown County Solid Waste Board.

This year’s St. Matthew’s Catholic Church Wild Game Feed will be held from 4-10 p.m. March 5, at the church, and will feature silent and live auctions.
Tickets can be purchased for $25 at the door or for $20 at the parish office.
The board was given an update by Code Enforcement Officer and Safety Coordinator Mike Lauder regarding the problem of nuisance properties in the village.
Lauder, who is currently working on a formal policy procedure for dealing with the issue within the village, informed those in attendance about a property which has been a nuisance in the past, and has made dramatic improvements since stricter enforcement began late last year.
The property in question had been costly for the village to deal with in the past but has now been taken care of, Lauder said.
He also said he has begun to formally look into another problem property.
