GREEN BAY – Incumbent Veronica Corpus-Dax is being challenged in April for her seat representing District 2 on the Green Bay city council by a Brown County board member.
Thomas De Wane, who has no challengers for his county board seat, is making another bid for city council.
The two faced off in 2018, when Corpus-Dax earned 1,057 votes to De Wane’s 652.
District 2 lies in east Green Bay along the Interstate-43 corridor.
Why should people vote for you?
I’ve worked the last two years, listening and learning all I could to be an alder and represent District 2.
I said from the beginning I’d listen and take into consideration all sides of the issue.
All action I’ve taken has been in the best interest of the city and its residents.
Some of those actions weren’t easy, passing the 2020 budget, for example, but the alternative would just be kicking the can further down the road.
Good working relationships with city staff and residents are an important part of serving and relationships that I want to continue to foster.

Speeding is the No. 1 residential complaint.
This issue isn’t going away anytime soon.
So many of the roads in District 2 are conducive to speeding.
Unfortunately, additional stop signs don’t necessarily curb the issue.
By adding police to the 2020 budget, the city will have a couple more officers on traffic enforcement.
Neighborhood associations have also helped to bring awareness to the issue by utilizing decals to remind motorists of the speed limit.
All of this helps, however, we as citizens need to do our part and be cognizant of the speed limit as we travel through our neighborhoods.
How can the city promote development in District 2?
The city must continue to rebuild relationships with developers to bring them back to Green Bay. It is in the best interest of the city to reach out to developers and landowners to determine the best use for the remaining buildable land in the Interstate-43 Business Park.
We as alders do not need to micro-manage projects, but we do need to make sure projects and taxpayer-funded incentives for those projects are in the best interest of the city and its residents.

What’s the biggest issue in District 2?
The biggest concern has always been our road conditions.
With the wheel tax we should be able to address this by doing more than 1 percent a year.
We cannot let staff or the mayor use this for nothing other than roads, which I will never support.
How can the city promote development in District 2?
Development in District 2 is consistent with mostly residential.
We need to work better with developers who are still willing to build in Green Bay.
It’s been a big problem, and we need to fix the relationship between the two.
We still have some room in our development park, but I believe staff has been doing a good job.
