West De Pere High School senior Jake Karchinski is well known for his prowess on the football field, but the 6-foot-5, 252-pounder is pretty good on the hardwood, too.

DE PERE—Everybody knows Jaddan Simmons can put the ball through the basket.However, on Friday night, she had 8 assists in addition to 18 points as the Green Bay Southwest Trojans edged the West De Pere Phantoms by a final of 49-42 in a WIAA Regional Semi-Final game played at West De Pere High School.

Evan Frisque was a standout linebacker on the 13-1 state runner-up West De Pere football team this past fall, where he led the team with over 80 tackles, 18 of which were for losses.

The WIAA released the boys’ basketball brackets Feb. 17 for the postseason.

APPLETON—Cody Minor (Ashwaubenon), Cole Gille (Pulaski), Chandler Stordeur (Bay Port), Connor Ramage (Ashwaubenon), Charlie Hooyman (De Pere), and Max Meeuwsen (Bay Port) all won Sectional Championships, Feb. 16, at Appleton North High School and punched their ticket to Madison and the WIAA Individual Tournament this upcoming week.

DE PERE—The No. 3 ranked Kimberly Papermakers (17-2 overall) put their full arsenal of talent on display, Monday, Feb. 11, as they defeated the West De Pere Phantoms by a final of 80-61 in a non-conference boys basketball game.

The WIAA released the girls’ basketball brackets Feb. 10 for the postseason.

Several area wrestlers won WIAA Division 1 regional titles or finished in the top four Feb. 9 to advance to sectionals.

SHAWANO—The West De Pere girls basketball used a 22-0 first half run to defeat the Shawano Hawks 58-47, Feb. 8, in a game held at Shawano High School.
