GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Police Department introduced its Mobile Response Team to local media during a training day held Aug. 8 in the Wisconsin Public Service Energy parking lot in Green Bay.

The department said that the purpose of the MRT — which can rapidly deploy up to 26 officers on mountain bikes — is to have a “peace officer approach” to policing for occasions such as First Amendment assemblies, high-profile visits, large community events, parades and similar events.

The MRT began its formation in Green Bay in the fall of 2023 and obtained its International Police Mountain Biking Association Bicycle Response Team Training certification in May, which consisted of two weeks of training with the Milwaukee Police Department.

Since then, the department said that the specialty team has been deployed three times in full gear.

The team’s mountain bikes were purchased with state American Rescue Plan Act grant funding.
