Isaiah Becker – The Next Generation in Band

Isaiah Becker
Green Bay West High School
Parents: Michelle and Andrew Becker
Area of Interest: Band

When did you first get involved in band? What got you interested?
I got involved in band in 3rd grade. I’ve always wanted to be a drummer.

What instruments do you play? Which is your favorite?
I play drums and bass guitar, and I’ve very recently started learning the flute. The drums are my favorite. I’ve always had a natural feel for rhythm and I love the sound of the drums.

What has been your favorite experience in band so far?
My favorite band experience is playing in the pep band at games.

What’s something you hope to do/accomplish as a musician in the future?
I hope to always be involved with music. I wish to always keep music as a hobby and I want to teach people how to play the drum set.

What advice would you give to someone looking to get into band?
I would tell someone to go for it! If you want to succeed in band, you must practice your instrument. If you don’t have any passion for your instrument, you won’t succeed. Inversely, if you truly love what you do and work hard, you will succeed.

What six words would you use to describe yourself?
Energetic, athletic, musician, passionate, excited and leader.

Do you have any hidden talents?
Most people don’t know I compete in academic competitions and used to travel to play in chess tournaments.

What subject do you enjoy most in school?
Math. I have always enjoyed math because I enjoy the challenge.

What’s your biggest pet peeve?
My biggest pet peeve is hypocrites.

Where do you hope to travel one day?
I don’t like to travel outside of the country. I want to go to the Badlands because I love the outdoors and it’s a beautiful place.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Don’t seek out relationships in high school. If one comes to you, take it, but don’t make it your goal to seek one out. Focus on being happy with yourself and enjoy spending time with friends.

Who is your role model?
My mom. She raised me and taught me how to be caring and compassionate, and at the same time how to stand up for what I believe.

What plans do you have for after you’ve finished school?
I plan to go to college.

If you could switch lives with anyone for a day, who would you choose?
I wouldn’t, I love my life and wouldn’t want to switch.

Do you have any pets?
I have two cats, Catniss and Emily.

What’s one skill you think everyone should have?
I think everyone should take lessons in self defense. It’s important to keep yourself safe in modern society.

Are you a Green Bay Packers fan?
Yes.
