Hnilicka

About 20 years ago, Mike Hnilicka started filling in as a crossing guard for his wife, Brenda, and he just sort of decided to keep doing it when he had the time on his days off from Georgia Pacific, where he has made his career.

Hnilicka, a Howard resident for the last 25 years, said he enjoys seeing the kids, the teachers and the school bus drivers.

As a Village of Howard municipal vehicle drove past, Hnilicka added village workers to the list of people he enjoys seeing on a day-to-day basis and, unprompted, both the driver and the passenger of the red pickup truck gave him a hearty wave.
