On Saturday Nov. 12, hundreds gathered at the KI Convention Center to take part in the 10th Annual Veteran Suicide Awareness March, in remembrance of service members who have taken their own life and to raise awareness to the epidemic of suicide among Veterans.
Saturday’s routes consisted of two distances, 1.76 miles and 17.6 miles, the latter number serving as a stark reminder of the number of US Veterans who take their own life each day, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The course, which ran through Green Bay, Allouez and De Pere, was marked throughout by combat boots, one for each of the 138 Wisconsin Veterans lost to suicide in 2020.
