For the first time since 2013, the Ashwaubenon girls’ swimming team is the Fox River Classic Conference (FRCC) champions.

In a tight finish at the conference swimming and diving meet, Ashwaubenon (504 points) edged Bay Port (488.5) at the Ashwaubenon High School pool on Oct. 29.

“So incredibly proud of these girls,” said Ashwaubenon coach Kari Klecka, who was named conference coach of the year. “They have worked hard all season, and to come out with a win was a perfect way to finish our conference meet.”

The Jaguars won eight of the 11 swimming events — five individual titles and three relays.

Ashwaubenon’s Bryanna Bellile and teammate Sienna Nitke combined to break four conference records in the meet.

Bellile, a senior who was named the conference swimmer of the year, won the 100-yard freestyle in the record time of 52.27 seconds. She also captured the 100 backstroke with a conference-record time of 57.91.

Nitke, a junior, took home first in the 200 freestyle (1:54.49) and 50 freestyle (24.07) — both record times.

Green Bay United’s 200 medley relay team of Cassandra Ullman, Neverman, Awe and Claire Sieber finished runner-up (1:54.92). In the 100 freestyle, Sieber was second (55.63). Sieber, Awe, Claire Schlaefer and Neverman placed second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:46.22).
