Local advocate to appear on big screen in Times Square

Late last year, Julianne Taylor, who studies Design Arts at Queens College in New York City and here at UWGB, snapped a photo of her brother, 21-year old Preston Taylor.

Young Preston, an artist in his own right whom readers might remember from an April 2022 story highlighting his efforts to raise money for Ukraine by selling his paintings, has Downs Syndrome.

The photo his sister took of him has been selected as one of 400 images (out of more than 2,000 submissions) to be featured Sept. 17 on the Mega Screen in New York City’s Times Square for the National Downs Syndrome Society’s (NDSS) New York City Buddy Walk.

“We are very proud of Julianne’s photography work,” said Julie Taylor, Preston and Julianne’s mother. “She is able to capture Preston’s best expressions and smiles. You can see the love he has for her in his eyes.”

Mrs. Taylor said Preston is very excited to see his picture in New York City, and that he’s also proud to be an advocate for everyone who has Downs Syndrome.

The Times Square event can be viewed via livestream at the NDSS Facebook page and more info on the Buddy Walk can be found at ndss.org.
