Butler headlines annual Lee Remmel banquet

The Rotary Club of De Pere announced that LeRoy Butler, a second-round draft pick in 1990 by the Green Bay Packers has been selected to receive the Distinguished Service Award at the annual Lee Remmel Sports Awards Banquet.

The awards will be presented at a 6 p.m. banquet on Tuesday, Oct. 18. at the Swan Club, located at 875 Heritage Road in De Pere. The public is invited to attend.

LeRoy quickly developed into a defensive leader for the Packers and went on to have an extremely successful career.

He came to the Packers from Florida State as a Consensus All-American. He was a four-time All-Pro, NFL 1990s All-Decade Team, Super Bowl champion and inventor of “The Lambeau Leap.”

He was inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year.

Additional recipients will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Lee Remmel Sports Awards banquet was established in 1998 by the De Pere Rotary Club with the approval, support and participation of Lee Remmel, serving at that time as the Green Bay Packers’ director of public relations.

Proceeds from the banquet are donated through the De Pere Rotary Club for scholarships to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, St. Norbert College and local high school students.
