Name: Lauren Morgan
School: De Pere
Area of Interest: Band
Parents: Sarah and Aaron Morgan

Recent De Pere High School graduate Lauren Morgan said she’s been passionate about music since the fifth grade – following in her mother’s footsteps as a flutist.

“My mom played the flute, and I wanted to play as well,” she said. “Ever since then, I have loved being in band and growing as a musician and as a person.”

Over the years, Morgan said for her, it became more than just about playing the instrument she loved.

“I loved playing my instrument, but I have also loved being a part of such a positive and supporting band community,” she said. “I have gained so many friendships and made the best of memories through my band experiences.”

At De Pere, she has been a part of the marching band, pep band, the musical pit band and the concert band.

“I have also had the honor of being the senior drum major this year for the marching band and pep band,” she said.

Looking to the future, Morgan said she hopes to continue her passion for music into her college years.

“I hope to continue my love for music and band by being in marching and pep band in college,” she said.
Morgan plans to attend Northern Michigan University next fall where she will pursue a secondary mathematics education degree “in hopes of being a super cool high school math teacher in the future.”

What six words would you say describe you best? Hardworking, determined, goal-oriented, leader, kind and quirky.
Do you have any hidden talents? I am not sure if this would 100% be considered a “hidden” talent, but I consider myself to be a really good rollerblader.
I have been rollerblading since I was in fourth grade and do it a lot in my free time trying out new tricks and working on my speed.
What’s the greatest piece of advice you’ve received? To always put my best foot forward, and do my best every day, no matter what my best looks like for that day.
This is something that I use every day as motivation to continue to be, as my band director would say, #bettereveryday.
Where do you hope to one day visit? I hope to go to Germany someday, because I would love to travel out of the country, and I have family that lives there that I haven’t been able to meet yet.
What advice would you give to other students thinking of starting with band? My advice for new band students would be to keep in mind that skills won’t come naturally and right away; progress will take time and practice.
Mistakes will happen, and that’s okay.
Additionally, don’t be afraid to take risks and do things that are not in your comfort zone.
Stepping out of your comfort zone may be difficult at first, but it will allow you to grow.
If you had a superpower, what would it be? It would be the ability to fly, because one of my biggest pet peeves is slow walkers and drivers, and being able to fly over them would lessen my frustrations with getting stuck behind slow people.
Milk, white or dark chocolate? Dark chocolate. It is superior to all chocolate, especially since white chocolate isn’t even real chocolate.
Early bird or night owl? Early bird. I have worked at a bakery for almost three years, and a lot of my shifts start at 5 or 6 a.m.
I seem to always have important things scheduled in the morning and have gotten used to early mornings.
Favorite Halloween costume you’ve ever had? Definitely my Batgirl costume where I twinned with my little brother, who was Batman.
Apple or Android? Apple.
