ASHWAUBENON – It was a big day for the Village of Ashwaubenon.

During a press conference Tuesday, May 10, officials unveiled the official logo and announced the Green Bay Packers as the presenting sponsor of the village’s upcoming Sesquicentennial Celebration.

“We’ll be celebrating the biggest event of our 150th birthday from Aug. 8-14,” Village President Mary Kardoskee said. “The opening ceremonies will take place Monday, Aug. 9, at the high school. A lot of activities. We’ve been working on this for over a year trying to get everything situated.”

Kardoskee said the week will also include an ice cream social, a Green Bay Rockers baseball game, a concert at The Epic, a scavenger hunt and an end-cap Pancakes, Porkies and Polka event.

Ashwaubenon Village Manager Joel Gregozeski said more details will be released in the coming weeks at ashwaubenon.gov/150.

“This year, as part of our sesquicentennial, we’re going to reflect on our history, celebrate our accomplishments and plan for a prosperous future,” Gregozeski said. “Ashwaubenon is a vibrant suburban community in the greater Green Bay area, and it is surrounded by historic Lambeau Field. While our community consists of approximately 17,000 residents, this regional hub is a place to shop, work and play, and traditionally hits a gross daily population of over 35,000. Ashwaubenon is truly known as an entertainment hub to the Greater Green Bay area.”

The Green Bay Packers are sponsoring the summer celebrations as part of their Packers Give Back program.

“The village has just been phenomenal to work with in terms of development, village staff has been tremendous,” Packers’ President Mark Murphy said. “Thank you for recognizing us, and allowing us to be the presenting sponsor.”

Village officials also unveiled the official sesquicentennial logo, a winning entry designed by Ashwaubenon High School senior Nelson Beams.

Gregozeski said the goal of the logo competition was to create a logo that would be representative of the community, but also encourage younger community members to be involved in the process.

“So we worked with our local area high school students to basically participate in a competition in which one student’s artwork was selected to be our official sesquicentennial logo,” he said.

Beams said his design was inspired by the many aspects of the village.

“The main thoughts that Ashwaubenon has is the new expo center, our pride of America, and I feel like our greenery and trees, we still have a lot of in the (village),” Beams said. “So, I just wanted to include all that in there.”

The new logo will be featured on a commemorative coin that will be available during the village’s 150th birthday celebration.

The other side of the coin will feature the Green Bay Packers logo as the event’s presenting sponsor.
