Collaborative effort to support pollinators

BROWN COUNTY – The cities of De Pere and Green Bay are offering their residents the opportunity to voluntarily participate in No Mow May 2022, an initiative that encourages people to stop mowing or mow less often for the month of May to support early-season resources for bees and other pollinators.

“The City of De Pere is continually looking for ways to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility,” De Pere Mayor James Boyd said. “With this optional No Mow May initiative, we continue this mission and join a growing number of communities who are embracing new ways to support and help our pollinators.”

Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich said he’s excited the city is participating this year.

“This initiative is a natural outgrowth of our efforts as a city to support pollinators by reevaluating our lawn care practices and increasing our emphasis on native plantings on city-owned property,” Genrich said.

Participants are asked to register with their respective cities and display their issued “No Mow May” yard sign in their front yard for the duration of the program.
