Five area boys basketball players named to all-state honor squads

BROWN COUNTY – Five area boys basketball players were recently named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-State honor squads.

Division 1

De Pere’s John Kinziger, a Division I recruit, was named to the first team for the second straight season.

The junior Kinziger helped lead the Redbirds to a Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 1 sectional final berth and a 25-3 record.

He averaged 21 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2 steals per game.

Kinziger shot 52% from the field, 46% from beyond the 3-point arc and 86% from the free-throw line.

He currently sits at 1,570 career points.

De Pere’s Will Hornseth, a sophomore, was an honorable mention pick after averaging 17.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

Green Bay East’s Ryan Sweeney was also an honorable mention pick after averaging 23.7 points per game for the 19-8 Red Devils.

Division 2

Ashwaubenon’s Marcus Tomashek, a repeat selection, was named to the first team for the 24-5 Jaguars, who advanced to the WIAA Division 2 State Tournament for the first time since 2006.

The senior Tomashek, a Division II commit to Michigan Tech, averaged 26.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists.

He ended his career with 1,628 career points.

Notre Dame Academy’s Chris Mitchell, a senior, made the honorable mention team after averaging 15.8 points per game for the 20-6 Tritons.
