Listening session

SEYMOUR – City Administrator Sean Hutchison will be on hand from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 31, for a listening session regarding the City of Seymour levy referendum vote on the April 5 ballot.

The drop-in style event will be held in the Muehl Public Library meeting space.

Hutchison will answer questions about the referendum or anything else city-related.

Longtime advocate honored as 2022 water champion

GREEN BAY – Harold ‘Jack’ Day, longtime advocate and educator, was named the 2022 Water Champion by the Green Bay Water Utility and NEW Water.

Each year, the two groups team up annually to celebrate World Water Day through the naming of a Water Champion. 

Day served on the Commission of NEW Water, the brand of the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District, for 29 years.

Organizers said Day was selected for this year’s award for his endless work to protect water resources, particularly in Greater Green Bay.

53rd Annual Pancake & Porkie Breakfast

ALLOUEZ – For the 53rd year, the Kiwanis Club of Allouez-Greater Green Bay will hold its annual Palm Sunday Pancake & Porkie Breakfast April 10 to raise money for local children’s projects.

The event is $8 for adults and $5 for children, and includes pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice.

Doors open at 8 a.m., with breakfast served until 1 p.m.

Organizers said the fundraiser provides resources for club projects, such as supporting The Golden House, providing equipment for Kiwanis Park and scholarships for high school students.

“We know kids need Kiwanis, in our community and around the world,” Mike Shea Jr., Kiwanis Club member, said. “This fundraiser generates a large part of our service project budget.”

Multiple reports of graffiti

GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Police Department is looking to the community to help locate those responsible for multiple reports of graffiti on the city’s near west side – specifically March 14-15.

If residents have any camera footage they feel may be connected, they are asked to forward it to the police department.

Officers are also encouraging residents to leave exterior lights on overnight. 

National safety award

DE PERE – Tweet/Garot was awarded with the Mechanical Contractors Association of America/CNA Insurance “National Safety Excellence Award” March 15 at the annual convention in San Diego.

The award recognizes successful safety programs and innovative safety initiatives.

“I am incredibly proud of our team members and their demonstrated commitment to safety,” CEO Christopher Howald said. “Being recognized as the safest mechanical contractor in the country is a great honor – and validation that we are building our culture the right way.”

Farmers’ market presenting sponsor

GREEN BAY – On Broadway, Inc., announced Breakthrough is the new presenting sponsor of the 19th annual Farmers’ Market on Broadway.

The market runs from 3-8 p.m. every Wednesday from May 25 through Sept. 28, and includes fruits, vegetables, flowers, food trucks, arts and crafts, and Broadway District businesses.

Rubbish Center to open for the 2022 season

DE PERE – The De Pere Rubbish Center, located at 925 S. Sixth St., will open for the 2022 season Saturday, April 2.

Hours of operation are from 3-7 p.m. Wednesdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

The site is available for City of De Pere residents only, and a valid ID is required for entry.

Historical Society to host used book sale

HOWARD – The Howard-Suamico History Society (HSHS) will hold its semi-annual used book sale April 29-30 

Items, such as books, tapes, puzzles, CDs and DVDs, can be dropped off at Thornberry Cottage or Kimps Ace Hardware, or by calling (920) 434-3723 or (920) 434-3514.

HSHS is also accepting applications for $1,000 scholarship to any graduating Bay Port Senior who will be continuing on to college.

Deadline for submission of the entry is April 4.

Bread sale for Ukrainian refugees

HOWARD – Green Bay Community Church is hosting a bread bake sale fundraiser to support Ukrainian refugees, with all funds raised supporting the World Central Kitchen, which is serving thousands of fresh meals to Ukrainian families.

The sale will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, March 27, at the church located at 600 Cardinal Lane.

The loaves will be sold for $10 each.
