Ashwaubenon loses to Pewaukee in state semifinals

MADISON – The Ashwaubenon boys’ basketball team saw its magical run come to end in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 2 state semifinals.

No. 1-seeded Pewaukee, the defending state champs, defeated the No. 4-seeded Jaguars March 18 at the Kohl Center in Madison, 60-49.

This was only the second trip to the WIAA State Tournament for the Jaguars, who last participated in 2006.

Ashwaubenon (24-5) trailed only 21-19 at the break, after trailing by as many as 12 in the first half.

The Jaguars were led by Marcus Tomashek’s 16 points, while Matt Imig chipped in with 15.

Drew Tomashek added nine points off the bench.

Ashwaubenon shot 40% overall from the field on 16-of-40 shooting and connected on 11-of-26 (42.3%) from beyond the 3-point arc.

The Pirates had three players score in double figures.
