Lucan Dhein is a senior on the Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran boys’ basketball team.

The Blazers finished the regular season at 17-7 to secure third place in the Packerland Conference.

Dhein averaged 13 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals per game.

He said his favorite player is James Harden because of his ability to create space and score.

Dhein said his favorite phone app is Instagram and the toughest team he played against was Southern Door his sophomore year.

He also played soccer for the Blazers in the fall.

Who’s the quietest person on your team? 

“Henry Huguet.”

What’s your most embarrassing soccer moment?

“Missing a game-winning penalty kick.”

If you won the lottery, what’s the first thing you’d do?

“Donate to N.E.W. Lutheran so it could build a multifunctional turf field. I would invest the rest.”

How many times can you head a soccer ball to yourself without letting it hit the ground? 

“Ten.”

What’s the hardest part about performing in a basketball game?

“Having the confidence to shoot after missing a few. When you have good confidence, you play better.”

A week in Iceland or Japan?

“Japan. The architecture of their buildings is stunning and there are some beautiful natural sightseeing spots as well.”

Talk about the frustrations of this past year and how you got through it.

“This past year, I tore my ACL in my knee and broke my thumb in my right hand. It was difficult and painful to recover because of the extensive therapy needed to fully heal. Learning to shoot a basketball and trusting my knee strength during soccer was hard. I got through it with hard work. I went to many therapy appointments and worked as hard as I could so I could return to sports.”

A cool or a hot summer?

“Hot.”

What’s one thing other teammates or coaches don’t know about you?

“I enjoy water sports like tubing, skiing and fishing.”

What do you think you’ll be doing in 10 years?

“My life-long goal is to become a doctor.”

Talk about a time when you helped somebody.

“I helped take care of an elderly couple’s yard and pool for a summer.”

What are your college aspirations? 

“I’d like to receive a four-year degree in biology and then go to medical school.”

Bike or rollerblade?

“Bike.”

Favorite professional soccer league? 

“UEFA Champions League.”

What two words describe you? 

“Mature, humble.”

Talk about your family heritage.

“Dutch and German.”

What’s the greatest piece of advice you’ve been told by a teacher?

“Focus on learning the information, and the grades will come.”

Carpet or hardwood floors?

“Hardwood floors.”

Favorite game played at N.E.W. Lutheran?

“Our playoff game against Gresham to make it to state. I played well, and our team did, too, so it’s a game I’ll never forget.”

How do you define success?

“Getting better at whatever you’re working at. I also think success is not only based on results.”
