Drawing breaks tie in District 6

GREEN BAY – The tie has been broken for the second spot in the April 5 general election for Green Bay City Council District 6.

Aron Obrecht will face off against Steve Campbell, following a casting lot event Monday, Feb. 21, at City Hall.

Obrecht and Andrew Gerlach both received 73 votes.

Candidates selected from two sealed envelopes – one envelope contained a paper with the word “winner,” which Obrecht chose, Gerlach’s envelope included a blank piece of paper.

When contacted following the tiebreaker drawing, Gerlach said he would not be requesting a recount and plans to support Obrecht in the general election.

Obrecht, who said he would have preferred a vote count to a drawing in determining who advanced to the general election, also stated he welcomes Gerlach’s support in the race.

The winner April 5 between Obrecht and Campbell earns a two-year term to replace Kathy Lefebvre, who didn’t seek reelection.
