What’s it like to be a senior leader?
“Leading by example and holding myself to a higher standard across the board.”
Talk about the awards and conference honors you’ve received.
“I’m a three-time state qualifier and a two-time state finalist. I’ve been all-conference since my freshman year. I’m a multiple All-American, including a third-place finish at the 2021 USA Folkstyle Nationals at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa. I won last year’s WWF (Wisconsin Wrestling Federation) Freestyle State Championship tournament in Wisconsin Dells.”
What’s your most embarrassing wrestling moment?
“Losing in the state finals my sophomore year after beating my opponent (Greyson Clark of Kaukauna) the week before at sectionals.”
What percentage of wrestling is skill and how much is strength?
“Wrestling is more skill than anyone thinks. I spend lots of time in and out of the season beating on my craft. I’d estimate it’s 90% skill and 10% strength.”
What’s the hardest part about performing in a match?
“You’re trying to beat someone head to head, and no one besides yourself can get the job done.”
Donuts or bagels?
“Donuts, especially during the offseason.”
What’s one thing other teammates or coaches don’t know about you?
“Outside of wrestling, I enjoy hunting and fishing with friends.”
Wrestling to a lighted or dimmed arena?
“When the lights are on and it’s my opponent and me on the stage.”
Talk about a time when a teacher stood out in the classroom.
“I’ve had multiple teachers willing to go above and beyond to help other students and myself reach our goals.”
What are your college aspirations?
“To become a four-time National Collegiate Athletic Association champion. I want to leave a lasting impact on people by the way I compete and score points. I never want to slow down or be satisfied on the mat.”
What’s your dream job after graduation?
“To work in the Department of Natural Resources field.”
Worst blood timeout?
“My sophomore year, I got a bad bloody nose and ended up having to forfeit the match because I ran out of blood time.”
What’s your favorite genre of music?
“Rap.”
Would you like anything changed to the wrestling format?
“Being the oldest sport, wrestling has stood the test of time, and for good reason. It would be interesting to make takedowns worth three points, as kids often don’t push as hard to score early on their feet.”
What’s your favorite picture on your phone?
“My friends and I after my 100th career win.”
What three words describe you?
“Hard-working, stubborn, motivated.”
Talk about making weight.
“Making weight is often looked down upon, but if you stay disciplined in your diet and get a few extra workouts in, you’ll be fine.”
