Butler, Meyer garner Freshman of the Week honors

GREEN BAY – a pair of University of Wisconsin-Green Bay basketball players – Bailey Butler and Cade Meyer – both recently garnered Horizon League Freshman of the Week honors.

For the second time this year, Butler received the award.

It’s the fourth Freshman of the Week award for the Phoenix this season, with Maddy Schreiber also garnering the honor twice.

Butler played a large role in Green Bay’s 2-0 week, stuffing the stat sheet in wins over Youngstown State and Robert Morris.

Against League-leading Youngstown State, Butler had 10 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds, while also hitting 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.

The South Wayne native followed that performance with 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists in a 57-41 win over Robert Morris.

Over the two games, Butler averaged 8.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4 assists.

Meyer is the second Phoenix player to receive the honor this season, with Kamari McGee grabbing the award in back-to-back weeks in January.

Meyer had another strong weekend for Green Bay, despite losses at Cleveland State and Purdue Fort Wayne.

The forward started the week with a career-high 17 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists on 7-of-14 shooting at Cleveland State.

He followed that performance with 13 points and 3 rebounds in a 55-71 loss at Purdue Fort Wayne.

Across the two games, Meyer averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists on 47.8% shooting.

In his last seven games, Meyer is averaging 14.4 points and 7 rebounds, compared to 5.5 points and 3 rebounds in his first 15.
