Area rinks open for skating

By Press Times Staff

BROWN COUNTY – It’s time to dust off those ice skates.

Recent cold temperatures have opened the gates to many outdoor ice rinks throughout the area.

Here’s a look at some of them:

Green Bay

The City of Green Bay announced it opened seven outdoor ice rinks – at Astor, Atkinson, Beaver Dam, Colburn, Edison, Perkins and Red Smith.

Hockey rinks are also available at Beaver Dam, Colburn, Edison Perkins and Red Smith.

Lighting is available from 4-9:30 p.m. at Astor, Beaver Dam, Colburn, Edison, Perkins and Red Smith parks.

Rinks can close due to conditions and weather.

Ledgeview

The ice rink at Scray Hill Park is open and ready for use.

Parks and Recreation Director Stephanie Schlag said crews worked all last week to build and fill the rink.

The gates to the park will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Parking lot lights will also be on nightly until 8 p.m.

Keep in mind there are no open facilities at Scray Hill Park, so dress appropriately and make a pit stop before you head to the park.

Hobart

The ice rink at Four Seasons Park on Overland Road in Hobart is officially open and ready for skaters.

Contact the village for rink specifics.

Allouez

The Green Isle Ice Rink is officially open and ready for use on the south end of the park near the softball diamond and 172.

The rink is open from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily.

Automatic lights turn on at 4:30 p.m. nightly.

De Pere

The ice rinks at VFW Park and Legion Park are officially open. The lights are on until 9 p.m.. There are no open facilities at the parks so dress appropriately.

Howard

Pinewood Park’s outdoor rinks are ready for skaters of all skill levels.

The main rink is enclosed with hockey boards and fencing, great for hockey use.

The smaller rink has no boards/fencing and is intended for general use.

The warming shelter is normally open on weeknights from 4-9 p.m. and weekends noon-9 p.m. when the ice rink is open.

Skating hours vary daily. Check the village’s website for times each day.

These hours may vary due to weather/ice conditions and warming shelter staffing availability.

Both rinks have lights for nighttime skating.

De Pere

City staff said, due to warmer weather earlier this month, its outdoor ice rinks are not yet open.

Staff said the plan is to turn on the lights and bring out the goals this week, with openings happening shortly after.
