Evans calls for county to take stance on Stadium District

By Press Times Staff

BROWN COUNTY – One Brown County supervisor is calling the County Board to take a public stance on the Stadium District.

District 9 Supervisor Patrick Evans has sent a letter to Board Chair Pat Buckley and Vice Chair Tom Sieber requesting a Committee of the Whole discussion item be added to the Wednesday, Jan. 19 County Board agenda in regards to the Stadium District.

In his letter to Buckley and Sieber, Evans calls for the board to discuss and vote on the continuation of the district, which State Rep. David Steffen recently introduced legislation to disband, saying the district completed its purpose.

Evans’ letter calls for action by the board in the form of a resolution stating “The Brown County Board of Supervisors is in support of the Green Bay/Brown County Professional Football Stadium District.”

Evans also asks that the result of the vote be sent to the Wisconsin State Legislature (all Senate and Assembly members) and the office of the governor.

“As the people of Brown County have provided $309 million in a half-percent sales tax lasting approximately 15 years, they should have a voice in support (or dissolving) of the district and subsequently District Board (oversight body),” Evans said in the letter. “This vote of support (or lack there-of) should be conducted through representation, on behalf of the constituent, by their respective county board supervisor.”
