Week 1 area high school football recaps

BROWN COUNTY – Week 1 of the high school football season is in the books after 11 of the 12 area schools – excluding Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran/Oneida Nation – were in action Aug. 19-20.

Ashwaubenon doubled up on road

The Jaguars (0-1) lost a 48-24 non-conference road game to Kaukauna.

The Ghosts led 41-10 at the break.

Ashwaubenon quarterback Boone Kirst hit wide receiver Rhett Jonas on an 80-yard score in the second quarter, while kicker Aj Uhl added a 33-yard field goal and an extra point.

Redbirds thumped in Wausau

De Pere (0-1) fell 38-14 to Wausau West in a non-conference road game.

West running back Colton Geurink rushed for 297 yards on 38 carries with five touchdowns.

Redbirds quarterback Gabe Herman threw for 120 yards and a touchdown.

Wide receiver Jack May hauled in five passes for 94 yards.

Caleb Rinard garnered 13 tackles on defense with a sack, while Kobe Cullen added 12 tackles.

Preble loses big on road

The Hornets (0-1) lost a 42-20 non-conference road game to D.C. Everest in Schofield.

Preble quarterback David Torres was 7-for-16 passing for 139 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Running back Ja’donn Potter-Kanyanta rushed 10 times for 123 yards with a touchdown while running back Pierce Willems had the other score for the Hornets.

Green Bay Southwest falls in Oshkosh

The Trojans (0-1) lost a 37-6 non-conference road game to Oshkosh North.

No stats were available online.

East drubbed at home

The Red Devils (0-1) were blanked at City Stadium by Oshkosh West in a non-conference game, 54-0.

Running back Darius Miller led East with 23 yards on three carries.

Wide receiver Jamaya Mariner added two catches for 15 yards.

Wildcats show life in loss

Green Bay West (0-1) fell to Clintonville at home in a non-conference game, 56-24.

The Wildcats led 12-6 after one quarter, but then the Truckers put up 37 points in the second quarter and another 13 in the third.

Quarterback Cory Johnson was 7-of-14 passing for 159 yards and three touchdowns.

All of Johnson’s touchdowns were caught by wide receiver Dakotah Montez, who had six catches for 138 yards.

Defensive lineman Jaysean Wright also returned a fumble for a touchdown.

Seymour shut out

The Thunder (0-1) lost a 40-0 non-conference road game to Freedom, which led 33-0 at the half.
