Agreement approved for Hobart dental clinic

By Press Times Staff

HOBART – After meeting in closed session Aug. 3, the village board approved a development agreement with AJ Hobart Building, LLC (Green Bay Family Dentistry) for the construction of a dental facility along Larson Orchard Parkway.

Village Administrator Aaron Kramer said the agreement is contingent upon approval of the design by Hobart’s Site Review Committee and the creation and approval of the project’s certified survey map.

Kramer said the agreement calls for the village to provide the land for the project, as well as an incentive payment for aesthetic improvements and tax abatements.

He said the dental clinic being constructed in Centennial Centre is scheduled to be built in 2022.

Future agenda items

After the board spent about three hours in an open session discussing the possibility of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office providing police services in the Village of Hobart and the Town of Lawrence, instead of the two municipalities having a combined police department, Village President Rich Heidel requested the matter be placed on the Aug. 17 agenda for possible action.

Brown County Sheriff Todd Delain appeared before the board at the request of Kramer, who emailed Delain in January about board members wanting to explore the possibility of the sheriff’s office providing law enforcement services.

In his presentation to the board, Delain said the earliest any changes could happen to police services in Hobart and Lawrence would be 2022.

Kramer said Lawrence has the so-called “nuclear option” for law enforcement services provided in the village and town because it is able to require a two-year notice before the agreement between the two municipalities could be terminated unless the town would waive the notice period.

The board was also scheduled to consider the assignment of board members to committees, but because of the amount of time spent discussing the possibility and feasibility of the sheriff’s office providing police services in Hobart and Lawrence, the board tabled discussion and action for another meeting.
