Valenzuela hired as De Pere soccer coach

De Pere – De Pere High School recently announced the hiring of Martin Valenzuela as head coach of the varsity boys’ soccer team.

Valenzuela replaces Dusty Rhodes, who resigned after eight seasons with the Redbirds.

Valenzuela has been a head coach/trainer for Wisconsin United FC, De Pere, since July 2019.

He also spent one season as the junior varsity coach at Freedom High School in 2018-19.

“Martin brings the enthusiasm and energy all new coaches come with, but he also has a high level of maturity and commitment to making our program the best it can be,” De Pere Athletics Director Jeff Byczek said. “We look forward to working with Coach Valenzuela.”

The Redbirds are coming off an alternate fall season this past spring during which they posted a 12-2-3 record, including WIAA regional and sectional titles and a runner-up finish at the Division 1 state tournament in May.

“I’m excited to be here and can’t wait to get on the field and start working,” Valenzuela said. “De Pere has a well-built soccer program, and with the student-athletes and coaching staff, my goal is to continue bringing great success.”
