Ben Busick was a member of the De Pere boys’ golf team which edged out Sheboygan North by one point to win the 2021 Fox River Classic Conference championship.

During the season, he had three sub-40 scores.

Busick perhaps saved his best for sectionals, where his 73 at Thornberry Creek at Oneida gave him a share of medalist honors.

With his score and three other solid performances from his teammates, the Redbirds won the title by 10 strokes over West De Pere.

At the WIAA state meet, Busick fired rounds of 82 and 76 (which included three birdies) on the Wild Rock Golf Club in Wisconsin Dells to help place De Pere ninth among 16 teams in Division 1.

Talk about how difficult it is to hit a golf ball.

“It isn’t difficult to hit the ball, but to get to the point where you know where it’s going on the golf course is hard.”

What did you think of Tiger winning the Masters last year?

“I loved it. I wanted to see one more major out of him.”

What’s your most embarrassing golf moment?

“When I had a short putt to win a tournament, and I completely missed it.”

A chip-in for eagle or a 350-drive piped down the middle?

“A chip-in for eagle.”

Talk about Coach Dave Wolf.

“Coach Wolf has been great in helping me throughout many rounds and continuing to believe in me, even after a bad day.”

If you could be somebody for a day, who would it be?

“Professional golfer Dustin Johnson. To have the complete overall golf game for one day would be amazing.”

Which do you like better – a short, downhill par four or a par three over water?

“A short, downhill par four. It’s easier to score well on.”

Talk about how your family has shaped you during your teen years.

“My parents have always been helpful with the privileges of golfing in tournaments and during the off-season to help better my game.”

What’s your favorite recovery shot of all time?

“At one tournament, I hit a ball into a creek and decided to hit it out. I saved par for the hole.”

Brown County or Thornberry Creek?

“Thornberry Creek.”

What are your college golf aspirations?

“To be the best golfer I can be and let everything fall around how I play.”

What are your hobbies?

“Hunting, fishing and anything outdoors.”

What three words describe you?

“Funny, energetic, caring.”

U.S. Open or the Players Championship?

“The Players Championship.”

Which do you dislike more – playing from the sand or four-inch rough?

“I hate the high grass, so playing from the four-inch rough.”

What are two things you’re going to miss about De Pere?

“I’ll miss my team and coaches the most. We had a built-in friendship that was nice.”

What’s your ideal foursome on the golf course?

“Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and me.”

What other sports would you have tried?

“Football or baseball.”

A 35 for nine or a 79 for 18 holes?

“A 35 for the nine holes.”
