BROWN COUNTY – Locally, the De Pere and Notre Dame Academy boys’ soccer teams each made it to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) state tournament.

Both the semifinal and final games will be played Saturday, May 15.

Division 1 De Pere (11-1-3), the No. 3 seed, will play No. 2 Waunakee at 2 p.m. in the second semifinal of the day at Kewaskum High School.

The De Pere/Waunakee winner will play the winner of No. 1 Appleton North/No. 4 Racine Horlick at 7 p.m. for the title.

De Pere is making its eighth overall appearance at state.

The most notable experience for the Redbirds came in 1993 when they won the Division 2 championship.

They also advanced to the title game the year before and finished runner-up.

De Pere advanced to the state tournament with a 1-0 shutout over Green Bay Preble in the sectional final game.

Division 2 Notre Dame (13-3-2), also a No. 3 seed, will play No. 2 Shorewood at 2 p.m. in the second semifinal of the day at Marian University.

The Notre Dame/Shorewood winner will play the winner of No. 1 McFarland/No. 4 Fort Atkinson at 7 p.m. for the title.

The Tritons qualified for the state tournament for the ninth time overall.

Notre Dame’s last appearance resulted in a loss in the Division 3 semifinals in 2015.

The Tritons won back-to-back Division 2 titles in 2007-08 and also won the crown in 2001.

In addition, they finished runner-up in Division 2 in their first-ever appearance in 2000 and 2013.

This year, Notre Dame advanced to the state tournament with a 3-1 win over Winnebago Lutheran in the sectional final game.

The Tritons finished second in the Fox River Classic Conference this spring.
