ASHWAUBENON – With only four voting members currently on the school board, each one is keeping the same office for another year after the board reorganized Wednesday, April 14.

Jay VanLaanen, who was re-elected April 6 to a new three-year term, remains as board president.

VanLaanen won his contested race against Heidi Murphy, 1,291-784.

Brian VanDeKreeke is continuing on as board vice president, while Jennifer Vyskocil remains as clerk and Michelle Garrigan was once again selected as treasurer.

The Ashwaubenon School District is accepting applications through April 23 to fill a board vacancy following last month’s resignation of Paul Trondson, whose term runs until April 2022.

Superintendent Kurt Weyers said two people applied for the vacancy as of the board meeting.

Board members tentatively plan to interview applicants prior to their May 12 meeting, when they also would appoint someone to fill the vacancy.

Meeting schedule

The board also set this year’s annual meeting/budget hearing for 6 p.m. July 14 in the district office, and agreed to keep its monthly meetings at 6:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month, except for three dates.

The June 2021 board meeting will be held June 16 to avoid a conflict with fifth-grade graduation June 9 at Valley View and Pioneer.

The October 2021 board meeting is set for Oct. 27, because the district doesn’t expect tax levy certification information will be available from the state by the second Wednesday of the month.

The March 2022 meeting will be held on March 16 because the Taste of Ashwaubenon is scheduled for March 9.
