Girls’ tennis: Southwest volleys past Preble

GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Southwest girls’ tennis team easily took care of Green Bay Preble Saturday, April 10, at the Western Racquet Club in a Fox River Classic Conference dual match.

The Trojans (4-3 overall) won three of the singles matches and swept the doubles matches on their way to 6-1 team victory.

The only match the Hornets (0-7) won was at No. 4 singles, where Allison Linsmeier blanked Cassandra Kubale, 6-0, 6-0.

Southwest head coach Windsor Tanner said he likes how his team is progressing.

“Hopefully, we can get through subsections and onto sectionals,” he said. “That’s what we’re hoping to accomplish right now.”

Because of the short season due to COVID-19, Tanner said his team hasn’t gotten enough time on the court.

“All the other schools, as we have been doing, are vying for indoor court time because of inclement weather and everything else,” he said. “We’ve been fortunate we’ve been able to acquire court space.”

Tanner said he’s looking forward to a normal fall season.

“There are a few things we’re working on right now as far as improving goes,” he said. “We’re approaching this as a preseason. In the fall, they’re going to be back out on the courts for a true regular season. Hopefully, by that time, lots of bugs will be worked out.”
