Bay Port’s LaPoint named pitcher of the week
ST. CLOUD, Minnesota – Former Bay Port High School pitcher Sydney LaPoint, now playing at Division II St. Cloud State University (SCSU), was recently named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
The Huskies scored 67 runs in their first six games at the Kelly Las Tournament.
LaPoint was near perfect in her lone start of the tournament, as she pitched a complete-game no-hitter.
The junior earned her first win of the 2021 season against Truman State, pitching five complete innings while surrendering no runs, hits or walks and striking out 10 batters.
LaPoint and the entirety of the St. Cloud State pitching staff threw 26 shutout innings to begin the season before surrendering their first runs.
While it was the first no-hitter of LaPoint’s career with SCSU, her no-hitter was the first for any Huskies pitcher since the 2015 season.
