BROWN COUNTY – Besides Bay Port’s Drake Anderson winning the 195-pound title at the WIAA Individual State Wrestling Tournament, several other area wrestlers also had strong showings.

Ashwaubenon, Bay Port and De Pere competed in the Division 1 meet at Kaukauna High School, while Seymour competed in the Division 2 tournament at Adams-Friendship High School.

Ashwaubenon results – Division 1

Connor Ramage (182) and Nathan Moynihan (220) both finished runner-up for Ashwaubenon.

After Ramage beat Kaden Hooker (Waunakee, 3-1 decision) in the quarters and Cole Mirasola (West Bend West, 5-3 decision) in the semis, he lost to John Gunderson (Baraboo) via pin in the finals to finish the season 17-1.

Moynihan beat Noah Nieberle (New Berlin West, 19-2 technical fall) in the quarters before bettering Kaukauna’s Alex Ashauer 4-2 in overtime in the semifinals.

In the title match, Moynihan lost a 2-1 heartbreaker to Stoughton’s Brooks Empey.

Moynihan finished the season 17-1.

Bay Port results – Division 1

Jacob Ward (145) finished sixth.

After winning his quarterfinal match against Liam Hughes (Marquette, 7-4 decision), Ward lost to Neenah’s Drake Hayward in the semis, 10-9.

Ward had a 9-8 lead, but Hayward executed a reversal for two points as the buzzer sounded.

Ward then lost to Brett Back (Wisconsin Rapids, 12-7 decision) and Zach Eliszewski (Mukwonago) via pin in the fifth-place match.

He finished the season 15-4.

De Pere results – Division 1

Shane Corrigan (120) finished runner-up, while Michael Alexander (182) finished third.

After Corrigan beat Bryan Winans (Kaukauna, 10-0 major decision) in the quarters and Quinton Wolbert (Oconomowoc, 8-7 decision) in the semis, he lost to Alec Hunter (Oshkosh West, 5-2 decision) in the finals to finish the season 13-2.

Alexander lost to Gunderson (8-1 decision) in the quarters before recording a win over Evan Huckstorf (Mukwonago, 8-5 decision) in his next match.

Alexander then beat Mirasola (6-4 decision) and Trevor Stuyvenberg (Kaukauna, 6-2 decision) in the third-place match.

He finished the season 11-5.

Seymour results – Division 2

Wyatt Kaczrowski (120) was the Thunder’s only participant, finishing runner-up.

He won his quarterfinal match over Wyatt Ingham (Amery, 5-2 decision) and then beat Ostin Blanchard (Campbellsport) via pin in the semis.
