Contested races set for local school boards

By Press Times Staff

BROWN COUNTY – Contested races will be on the ballot this spring for a number of local school boards.

The two at-large seats up for election to new three-year terms in the De Pere school district generated enough interest to hold a primary Feb. 16 to narrow the field of candidates from five to four for the April 6 general election.

Incumbents Jeff Mirkes and Dan Van Straten are being challenged by Adam Clayton, Angela Hoisington and Chad Jeskewitz.

Howard-Suamico

There will also be a school board primary in Howard-Suamico to narrow the field of five candidates to four for the two at-large seats up for election for three-year terms.

Incumbents Vanessa Moran and Jeff Eilers are being challenged by Travis Veraghen, AJ Walker and Greg Klimek.

West De Pere

A primary will be held for the West De Pere school board to eliminate one of three candidates running for an open at-large seat with Tom Van De Hei deciding not to seek a new three-year term.

Riley Drew, Jamie Kinjerski and Ryan Van Den Heuvel have registered to run.

Green Bay

The two at-large seats up for election this spring for three-year terms on the Green Bay school board are being contested with four candidates who will be on the general election ballot.

Incumbents Andrew Becker and Rhonda Sitnitkau are being challenged by Nancy Welch and Bryan Milz.

Ashwaubenon

Only one of the five at-large elected school board seats in Ashwaubenon will be on the ballot this spring for a new three-year term.

Board President Jay Van Laanen is being challenged by Heidi Murphy.
