Notre Dame’s Opichka signs National Letter of Intent

GREEN BAY – Notre Dame Academy senior Sammy Opichka signed a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, Nov. 11, with the University of St. Thomas women’s basketball team.

The 5-foot-11 Opichka has scored more than 900 points in her career for the Tritons.

She averaged 14.7 points, 3.9 assists and 2.7 steals per game in Fox River Classic Conference (FRCC) play as a junior on her way to being named a first-team FRCC selection.

After leading Notre Dame to the WIAA Division 2 sectional semifinals, Opichka earned Division 2 all-state honors from the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association.

St. Thomas is currently an NCAA Division III program, but the college will be transitioning to becoming an NCAA Division I program for the 2021-22 season.

“It was a perfect fit for Sammy academically, athletically and socially,” Notre Dame girls’ basketball coach Sara Rohde said.

Sammy is the daughter of Peter and Heather Opichka.
