SEYMOUR – Josh Prewitt, a Seymour High School boys’ soccer player, attended the WIAA state tournament last season as a junior, but the Thunder lost in the state semifinals.

Prewitt and his teammates were hoping to return to state this year, but Seymour lost a 3-1 game Oct. 31 to Roncalli/Two Rivers in the sectional finals to end their undefeated season.

“The season was different, but I’m thankful we got to play close to a full schedule,” said Josh, the son of Katherine and Terry Prewitt. “We came into the season not knowing what it’d be like, but thankfully, we stayed motivated and worked hard. Everyone worked hard during the summer. Our athletic director (Ryan Spaulding) did a great job getting us games.”

Prewitt, who scored the only goal in the sectional final loss, was homeschooled up until this school year.

“Not many people know I was homeschooled,” he said. “I played on the team last year but didn’t live in the school district. This year, we live in the district.”

The Thunder are coached by Todd Messner.

“Josh is an outstanding student and is taking several college classes,” said Messner. “He immediately fit in on our team and was a pleasure to work with. He has lots of skill, both offensively and defensively.”

Prewitt ended the season with seven goals and eight assists.

“Coach Messner is a great guy and coach,” he said. “He’s been with the team for a long time and took the time to get to know each of his players. He’s also no-nonsense, which I liked.”

Prewitt said he plans to attend college but isn’t quite sure where yet.

“My No. 1 option right now is Montana State University,” he said. “I like the area and love to snowboard in my free time, so it’s perfect for that. I might study something business-related. I’d love to play soccer in college as well, but it’s not my first priority. It would be wonderful if it worked out, though.”

Prewitt, who described himself as motivated and having integrity, said his most memorable moment was making it to state last season.

“It was tons of fun and something I’ll always remember,” he said. “On the other end, I also missed a goal I should have made during the state game. It was a little embarrassing not making it.”

Prewitt has two older sisters and an older brother.

“My dad is from Iowa, and my mom is from Brookfield,” he said. “My older brother was influential in me playing soccer. My dad did football and baseball when he was younger, and my mom did tennis and cheered.”

Prewitt also likes football, mountain bike riding, wakeboarding, spaghetti, mint ice cream, the month of December, Christmas, the phone app YouTube, the color blue, buffaloes and his favorite restaurant is HuHot.
