Name: Hallory Domnick

Nickname: Hal, Hally

Parents: Amy and Ray Domnick

Activity: Girls’ swimming

Hallory Domnick is a senior at Ashwaubenon High School on the girls’ swimming team.

Domnick said she’d like to be alpine skier Lindsay Vonn for a day because of her inspiration and desire to never give up in competitions.

She has a signed picture of Katie Ledecky in her room she received from attending the 2016 US Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha, Nebraska.

How difficult are the relay events?

“Relays in swimming are the most important events in the meet. They score the most points and can help your team win. I think the other cool part about a relay is coming together with my teammates.”

Talk about the success you’ve had as a swimmer.

“I couldn’t be more proud of myself and the career I’ve had at Ashwaubenon. It’s weird to think when I was a freshman, my goal was to make the podium in Madison, and now I’m a state champion. I put in lots of hard work and dedication to get where I am today.”

How has your family helped you succeed?

“My mom is super helpful because she’s the one up with me at 5 a.m. getting ready for practice. She also makes sure I’m eating healthy and getting the nutrients I need. My dad is my motivator. Since he was an athlete, he understands everything I go through with the ups and downs in sports. I’ll never forget the moment I touched the wall after winning the 500 freestyle at state. After seeing the scoreboard, I looked in the crowd for my dad. I saw him crying and cheering for me. It’s what made me so emotional after my race.”

What’s the greatest piece of advice somebody has told you?

“My old club coach, Dave, is always great with advice. I told him I was nervous before a big race, and he said, ‘If you’re nervous, it means you care.’ My nerves went away immediately, and I ended up doing well in that event and moving forward.”

What’s your favorite phone app?

“Snapchat.”

What are your college aspirations?

“I want to major in physical therapy and possibly minor in Spanish. I’m planning on swimming in college, but with COVID-19, recruiting has been difficult because I cannot tour or meet the teams.”

Chicago or Ney York City?

“Chicago – It’s my favorite city to visit.”

What are your hobbies?

“I like to draw and write.”

What one word describes you?

“Dedicated.”

What are your favorite music genres?

“Jazz vocals and 80’s hits.”

Talk about a volunteer moment that made you smile.

“Every year, my church does a volunteer project where we babysit the kids who attend our parish so their parents can do their Christmas shopping. The kids are so cute and they make me smile because they’re silly.”

Driving or flying to a vacation destination?

“Flying.”

Who’s your favorite swimmer?

“Regan Smith. She’s 18 and already holds world records in the 100- and 200-meter backstroke. I find it cool she can be this great at swimming while balancing her high school life at the same time.”

What are two things you’re going to miss about attending Ashwaubenon?

“The teachers and swimming.”
