Basketball training facility coming to Hobart

HOBART – The Village of Hobart officially welcomed its newest neighbor in Centennial Centre last week.

The Workshop, a basketball and sports training facility, and home of Team 1848 Grassroots AAU program, will break ground later this year on a 16,170-square-foot sports training facility.

It will be constructed along Centerline Drive on a newly created parcel adjacent to the village water tower.

Owner Harry Boyce is a nine-year European Professional Basketball champion and professional basketball trainer.

While playing at Green Bay East High School, Boyce was a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, two-time Fox River Valley Conference (FRVC) All-Conference Selection, FRVC Player of the Year, Northeast Wisconsin Player of the Year, Metro Player of the Year and an All-Star Selection.

He went on to play college basketball at the University of North Dakota, where he was named defensive player of the year, third Team All-Conference, and led the league with a 3:1 assist to turnover ratio.

Boyce finished his collegiate career in Makato, Minnesota, where he was named to the All-Defensive and All-Conference teams.

Following his college career, he played professionally in China, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Egypt and Germany.

Playing with Telcom Baskets of Egypt, Boyce helped his team reach the Final Four, averaging 18 points per game, and was named to the All-Import Team.

Highlighting his career was the 2nd Bundesliga Championship with Schwelmer Baskets of Germany.

Boyce’s knowledge of and passion for the game of basketball has helped with the development of hundreds of players, with many advancing to successful college careers.

“Brian Peters of Bayland Buildings saw the potential in Team 1848 after being introduced by Kendra Anderson, VP of The Stephenson National Bank and Trust, who is proudly financing this facility,” said Village Administrator Aaron Kramer. “Together they have partnered and been involved in the development of the facility in Hobart. We can’t wait to see the building under construction, and the first wave of talented players coming to Hobart to realize their full potential.”
