Booyah pitching gets rocked in loss

ASHWAUBENON — The Green Bay Booyah baseball team gave up multiple runs in the sixth and ninth innings in route to an 11-1 Northwoods League defeat July 14 to the Wisconsin Woodchucks.

Nick Marshall got the win for Wisconsin (4-9 overall), while Ben Hart took the loss for the Booyah (6-8).

Green Bay managed five hits but also committed two errors in the field.

“It’s a season where you ‘re playing every night,” said Tom Carty, Green Bay manager. “We have to have guys ready to pitch, and we weren’t able to get out of jams tonight.”

After the Woodchucks put up a single run in the top of the second, the Booyah responded with a run of their own.

Chris Seng led off with a walk and then took second with a stolen base.

After a groundout, Ty Olejnik provided the lone bright spot of the night for Green Bay when he singled to right field, bringing home Seng.

“Both of those guys have foot speed, which is huge,” Carty added. “I told these guys a few days ago, we have a knack for responding after we’ve given up a run. Unfortunately, we did it only once tonight and didn’t follow it up in the latter innings.”

With Wisconsin up 2-1 in the top of the sixth, the floodgates opened.

Five singles, a walk and a wild pitch added up to five runs for the Woodchucks, as they extended their lead to 7-1.

“We have enough top to bottom hitting to come back from this,” said Carty. “It’s not a light lineup. It’s one through nine, and we’ll be back to put pressure on teams moving forward.”

Wisconsin added four additional runs in the final inning, which included a two-run homer by Pablo Ruiz.

Green Bay will be back in action tonight, July 15, when they travel to Wisconsin for the second of a four-game tilt with the Woodchucks.
